IIn my internship, I am working on the campaign for Space Tournament, an indie arcade game. I am responsible for the level concept, balancing, and mood. The levels are built using the in-house Mission Editor.
As an example, I would like to showcase the level "Ship Happens." The video above demonstrates a possible playthrough
Overview
blue: playable space
red: area cannons are shooting
green: player gets stunned
Arrows: level flow
At the beginning, the red light warns the player of an unseen threat.
The player decides which path to take. The upward path is easier but slower. New or cautious players will likely choose this path due to the easier maneuvering required to navigate it.
Players aiming for their best time opt for the more dangerous path to the right.
When the paths converge, the player encounters a third cannon. The path to the gate is partially obstructed by power cables, which could stun the player and leave them vulnerable to the cannon. The gate gradually opens as the player approaches, marking the climax of the level. The player must navigate through the gate to emerge victorious.
